Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, has just finalized her divorce from her second husband.
The fifty-two-year-old separated from her first ex-husband Jeff Bezos back in 2019.
The pair had been married for twenty-five years, and had 4 kids together.
Since her divorce from Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, Scott has made headlines for her generous behavior.
The author has made it clear what she wants to do with her chunk of the fortune.
As per Forbes, “Mackenzie Scott has distributed at least $8.6 billion in less than two years to 780-plus organizations.
“Ex-husband Jeff Bezos has ramped up philanthropy since transitioning from Amazon CEO to chairman, announcing $1 billion in donations in 2021.”
The pair first met while working at a hedge fund together back in 1992.
They married after 3 months of dating, and went on to have 3 children together.
In 1993, they both left their jobs to begin an online bookstore.
I think you might be able to see where this is going…
Just 5 years later, the company moved into selling music and videos too.
Not before long, Amazon became the leading online store for consumer goods.
Fast forward twenty years, and the couple announces that after a “long period” of separation they intend to file for divorce.
Their statement read: “We have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.”
Although Bezos retained seventy-five percent of his Amazon stock, Scott was entitled to the remaining twenty-five percent.
This totaled an impressive $35.6 billion, making her the third wealthiest woman in the world.
But not before long, Scott’s wealth spiraled.
She officially became the richest woman in the world in September 2020, per CNN.
However, that didn’t stop her from making some huge charitable donations.
Since divorcing Bezos, Scott has made some incredibly generous moves.
Back in February this year, the philanthropist pledged a whopping $133.5 million to the nonprofit, Communities In Schools.
The organization helps keep at-risk children from low-income backgrounds in education.
Staff at the nonprofit work with children in schools who are at risk of dropping out.
The group also helps the families of struggling students with living essentials, such as food, healthcare, counseling, and housing.
Previously, the group only functioned in 3,000 schools across the U.S. but thanks to this donation, they plan to roll out their program into another 70,000 schools across America…
Potentially helping thousands more students.
In March, she announced another round of donations as part of her ever-loving pledge to give away her fortune.
The richest woman in the world announced this extremely giving news in a blog post.
“Below is a list of gift recipients since my post in June, 465 non-profits converting $3,863,125,000 into meaningful services for others,” she wrote.
“Our team’s focus over these last nine months has included some new areas, but as always our aim has been to support the needs of underrepresented people from groups of all kinds. The cause of equity has no sides,” she continued.
“When our giving team focuses on any system in which people are struggling, we don’t assume that we, or any other single group, can know how to fix it,” she explained when talking about the selection process for the organizations she donated to.
“We seek a portfolio of organizations that supports the ability of all people to participate in solutions. This means a focus on the needs of those whose voices have been underrepresented,” she continued.
Scott then told readers that she’s looking forward to sharing the organizations with her readers before listing all 465 of them on her post.
Some organizations Scott and her organization will be donating to include;
A New Way of Life, African Women’s Development Fund, Diverse Elders Coalition, Impact Justice, Sight Savers, Women Win, and Youth Villages.
This donation will raise her total to $12.5 billion.
It looks like Bezos could learn a thing or 2 from his ex-wife!
Last month, Scott hit headlines again for another incredible donation.
The California Community Foundation (CCF) announced that Scott had donated “2 single-family residences valued at $55 million.”
Both homes are located on N. Alpine Drive near Coldwater Canyon Park.
According to the CCF, they plan on selling the homes as soon as possible with ninety percent of proceeds going to “affordable housing grant making.”
The other ten percent will support its immigrant integration program.
They explain that this will be used to “advance opportunities for the millions of immigrants from throughout the world who call Los Angeles County home.”
The fifty-two-year-old also hit headlines for yet another charitable donation.
But, this time, it’s to an organization that lots of us have experience with.
Scott donated a record-breaking sum to Girl Scouts of the USA.
The organization announced the news in a press release.
The sum donated totals $84.5 million, which is the “largest donation from a single individual in the organization’s history.”
How incredible!
Sophia Chang, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA, said: “We are so appreciative of MacKenzie Scott’s gift to Girl Scouts.
“This is a great accelerator for our ongoing efforts to help girls cultivate the skills and connections needed to lead in their own communities and globally.”
“The support from all our donors, including this generous donation from Ms. Scott, is critical in delivering on our work of reimagination and transformation.
“We’re excited to prove how Ms. Scott’s investment in girls will change the world – because when one girl succeeds, we all succeed,” Chang said.
But it seems things haven’t been going quite so well in Mackenzie’s person al life.
As the novelist has just finalized her divorce from her second husband.
She married Dan Jewett in 2021, a former teacher who left his job to join in with Scott’s philanthropic efforts, UNILAD reported.
But the two have now made their split official with divorce papers being signed by a Washington state judge on Jan. 4, according to People magazine.
Jewett has not contested the divorce, and both had previously signed a prenuptial agreement to protect Mackenzie’s wealth.
What do you think about the news?
