Everyone knows Lindsay Lohan…
She featured in some of the biggest chick flicks we all know and love.
But did you know she first started off her career doing television commercials?
For top brands like Gap, Pizza Hut, Wendy’s, and Jell-O!
Lohan then made her acting debut in 1996 as the third actress to play Ali Fowler in the television drama Another World.
She was also hand-picked by Oscar-nominated writer Nancy Meyers to play estranged twin sisters in an adaptation by Walt Disney Pictures of a novel by Erich Kastner.
But it was not until 1998 that Lohan bagged herself her first feature film, The Parent Trap, a remake of the same movie from 1961.
It earned Lohan widespread critical acclaim and a Young Artist award for Best Leading Young Actress in a Feature Film, as well as that it became a nominee for the Blockbuster Entertainment and YoungStar award nominations.
Soon after this led the young actress to sign a 3-movie contract with Disney.
She then returned to the small screen to star in made-for-TV movies like The Wonderful World of Disney: Life Size in 2000 with Tyra Banks and Get A Clue in 2002 opposite Bug Hall.
Lohan also appeared as Rose in the pilot episode of the short-lived comedy series Bette in 2000, which starred Bette Midler.
The actress took a brief hiatus from acting in June 2001 and a year later she launched her music career when she signed a 5-album production deal with Estefan Enterprises in September of that year.
But she hadn’t given up her acting career just yet…
The previous month, she had been cast opposite Jamie Lee Curtis for another Disney adaptation of a novel…
This time the fantasy comedy Freaky Friday in 2003 was a major hit at the box office and reportedly generated over $160 million worldwide.
And there was no stopping Lohan, as she also won the 2004 MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Female, as well as a Saturn award nomination and another Young Artist award nomination.
Lohan then relocated permanently to Los Angeles between projects and moved into an apartment with fellow actress Raven Symone.
Her next acting role was the title character in the comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen in 2004.
It was a Disney adaptation of the novel by Dyan Sheldon.
The movie received scathing reviews upon its release and it soon died a quick death at the box office…
And even the harshest of critics were impressed by Lohan’s charming turn as aspiring actress Lola.
But it was her role in Mean Girls back in 2004 that subsequently labeled Lohan as a the Chick Flick actress…
The high-school comedy-drama opened to glowing reviews and even grossed $86 million in the US.
This earned raised Lohan’s status as a bankable actress.
According to reports, her salary went up that year and for Just My Luck in 2006, the actress received a whopping $7.5 million.
She then went on and starred in Bobby, Herbie Fully Loaded, The Love Bug, and A Prairie Home companion.
On top of a thriving film career, Lohan also released her debut album, Speak, which hit shelves in December 2004.
Then in 2009, Lohan even launched her own fashion line called “6126”, which mainly focused on the production of women’s leggings.
She soon ventured into launching a self-tanning spray line titled “Sevin Nyne” and by the end of the year, she became an artistic designer for the fashion house Ungaro.
Lohan continued her acting career and even did a supporting role in the action film Machete in 2010.
But things started heading down a difficult phase and Lohan admitted to drug abuse and alcoholism.
During a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lohan admitted to lying about how many times she used c*****e.
While she had previously said that she used the drug 3 or 4 times, she told Winfrey that the actual number is more like ten to fifteen times.
“I was terrified of being judged,” she said.
Lohan also admitted: “I’m an addict,” yet insisted that her addiction was only to alcohol.
“That, in the past, was a gateway to other things for me. I tried c*****e with alcohol,” she said.
Lohan also spoke about the time she found out she was going to jail and how it was “terrifying,” but subconsciously she knew that she needed help.
“Having all the chaos around me that I was so comfortable with, I somewhere inside knew I wanted to go to jail. And I think that that was subconsciously being put out there just by my actions, or lack thereof,” she said.
Back in 2013, Lohan came out clean after years of going back and forth to rehab, which she called “pointless,” at the time.
And soon, it was her personal life that set headlines buzzing when she admitted to having dated a girl for the first time.
Lohan was scrutinized for her relationship with English DJ Samantha Ronson and told Us Weekly about the intense ridicule she received for dating a woman.
“I was bold enough to say, ‘Yeah, I like a girl. And?’ That put [Ronson] in a situation where she was being attacked every day. That’s not fair… And what am I left with? Heartbreak,” the actress said in 2012.
She added: “I needed to love myself before I could be with anyone. And I was going through a lot. Two toxic people cannot be together. End of story.”
But things took a different turn in 2015 when Lohan was pictured with a copy of the Muslim holy book and was also pictured wearing a headscarf in Turkey.
She soon faced backlash in America for it, but she didn’t shy away from opening up about it.
“They crucified me for it in America. They made me seem like Satan. I was a bad person for holding that Quran,” she said.
“I was so happy to leave [America] and go back to London after that because I felt so unsafe in my own country. If this [Islam] is something that I want to learn, this is my own will,” she added.
Lohan also spoke about her experiences working with Syrian refugees in Turkey, where she was presented with a headscarf to wear.
“When the woman put that headscarf on me, I felt really honored because she went out of her own way to allow me to be a part of my own culture and she didn’t have to do that,” she said.
“I said I really liked the color of her headscarf and she gave it to me, and maybe she had two and she gave me one – there’s more in the story that occurred.
“Because this woman took the time to give me this, and a part of herself, not even knowing me, I’m not taking it off,” Lohan said.
She has recently made a comeback to acting with her first lead role in over 10 years, starring in Netflix’s new Christmas film Falling for Christmas.
As she gets her acting career in full swing again, she says she has discussed the idea of making a sequel to one of her most famous films, Freaky Friday.
Based on a sequel idea from her Freaky Friday co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, Lohan now says that she wants to make it a reality.
The pair starred in the teen comedy back in 2003, and now a follow-up film could be in the works.
In a recent chat with host Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Lohan seemingly confirmed that it has been discussed, and that they’d “both be into it.”
The actress added: “Let’s just take the fact that I was on set filming at the time, and Jamie Lee Curtis writes… and you just get excited and distracted immediately. So, I had to bring myself down to Earth and be like, ‘I’m on set, I have to focus.’ Then she said Freaky Friday 2, and I got more excited.”
When Fallon asked if there were any plans set it stone to get the sequel going, Lohan seemed to confirm that it’s very much a possibility.
“We’d both be into it,” she responded.
And that’s not all…
“I think I’m always the kind of person that I see what comes and take it as it comes, wherever the scripts lead me,” Lohan said to Forbes this week.
“I love doing ‘rom coms’ so that’s always something that I’m going to look for and do a ton of when the time is right, but there’s definitely other — I’ve never done an action film.”
“I would love to do something with Marvel — just seeing what comes my way and I’m open to different roles,” she said.
Lohan has also opened up about her personal life for the first time in many years…
And was full of praise for her husband Bader Shammas.
She wed the financier back in July.
“I’m really lucky,” Lohan told Good Morning America.
“I found my partner and he’s an amazing man and we’re a great team.
“He’s the best, I really — I love him so much,” she said.
We’re very happy for the pair!
