Valerie Bertinelli started out in the CBS hit TV series, One Day at a Time back in 1975.
She remained on the show until it ended production in 1984, without being canceled.
Bertinelli then starred in 3 feature films: C.H.O.M.P.S. in 1979, Ordinary Heros in 1986, and Number One with a Bullet in 1987.
She was also the protagonist of the miniseries, I’ll Take Manhattan, which was based on a novel by Judith Krantz.
While she also starred in 2 other situation comedies, Sydney in 1990 and Cafe American in 1993.
Both of which were canceled after short runs.
In 1981, she married rock guitarist Edward Van Halen.
They had homes in the Hollywood Hills and Malibu and have a son, Wolfgang Van Halen, however, they separated in 2001 when Van Halen had tongue cancer.
In 2005, Bertinelli filed for divorce for irreconcilable differences and, it was finalized 2 years later.
But it’s worth noting that Bertinelli is still chiefly remembered by her television fans for her work on One Day at a Time.
Bertinelli’s long and celebrated career has expanded to include equally beloved TV personality, spokesperson, and best-selling author.
She starred as Melanie Moretti on the Emmy Award-winning series, Hot in Cleveland in 2010, which in 2011 was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
The comedy revolves around 3 fabulous LA women of a certain age, and best friends, whose lives are changed forever when their plane, bound for Paris, unexpectedly lands in Cleveland.
Bertinelli went on and married Tom Vitale in 2011, but recently divorced him.
According to reports, she couldn’t be happier about it!
Bertinelli was involved in a lengthy divorce battle with Vitale, who she was married to for 10 years before they separated in November 2021. They cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind the split.
However, after a recent call with her lawyer telling her that the papers have been finalized, she is now finally a free woman.
The sixty-two-year-old celebrated the occasion with an update to her thousands of Twitter followers, and let them know about her happy news.
“My lawyer just called. The papers are all signed. They’re about to be filed,” she said in the video.
“On 11/22/22, I am officially f****** divorced. Happily divorced. Finally. It’s finally over.”
She captioned the clip: “Second best day of my life.”
Fans were quick to congratulate her…
“Happy divorce Valerie! So proud of you for staying strong during this whole ordeal. You have your life back!” wrote one user.
“Didn’t realize things were that bad in your marriage, seemed fairly good when he was on your show. But you never know I guess. Well congratulations,” another added.
However, not everyone was supportive as some pointed out that divorce shouldn’t be normalized or celebrated…
“You are what is wrong with the world… even if you are happy with your divorce… to announce it to the world with such glee… reiterates to those of us who honor and celebrate marriage and despise divorce that you are the problem. Divorce is sometimes needed but not celebrated,” wrote one user.
